Friedberg Direct (AvaTrade) is authorized to serve Canadian residents as a member of the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization — CIRO, the national regulator formed from the merger of IIROC and the MFDA. That means segregated client funds, ongoing capital requirements, FINTRAC anti-money-laundering compliance and coverage by the Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF) within prescribed limits. Note that Canadian rules do not mandate negative balance protection, so disciplined stop-loss use matters.
